June 26 - July 3, 2026
We left the Quebec City area and continued on Route 132 around the province. Our first stop included a self-guided tour of the Reford Gardens, a National Historic Site of Canada. Lots of beautiful blooms and a few graduate student art projects created a nice, morning walk.
Our next stop was near the Forillion National Park on the Gaspe Peninsula. Eager to see where the Notre Dame Mountains, the northernmost mountains in the Appalachian Mountain chain dumped into the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Harold and I joined a group hiking the "moderate" 823 ft climb to the observation tower. We earned that view!
As we were getting ready to leave the Gaspe campground, we noticed that our steps weren't working again. All those rainy drive days had wreaked havoc with the step motor. Thankfully Harold had some help with that repair.
Steps fixed, we headed to Perce and its amazing scenery. The monolith with its "pierced" appearance and the Bonaventure Island National Park were impressive. We're glad our boat tour had a relatively clear day since dense fog seemed to be the norm when we were there. We enjoyed a little boutique shopping too. Well, I did, Harold may not quite agree with that!
From Perce, we headed to Campbellton, NB. An enroute stop at Miguasha National Park included a tour of a fossil exhibit and a short beach walk. A world heritage site, the national park is home to some impressive fossils.
